SuperSkills Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training shows how wearing Protective Equipment plays a crucial role in preventing and reducing fatalities, injuries and diseases at work.

It includes details of a wide range of PPE options, examines the legislation and regulations and also covers the role risk assessment plays in the selection and use of PPE.

The course concludes with advice on how to use, fit and wear PPE and its physical and practical limitations.

In the UK there are approximately 144 fatalities in the workplace and around 621,000 non-fatal
injuries every year.

Personal Protective Equipment plays a vital role in managing these Health & Safety risks.

However, historical data shows many workers suffering injury were not wearing their PPE, were using it incorrectly, or using the wrong PPE for the task they were undertaking.

That’s why Personal Protective Equipment Training is essential to keep workers safe

Candidates understanding how and why they should use PPE will mean they are more likely to use it consistently and correctly throughout their work.

This has the advantage of reducing their risk of injury.

SuperSkills Personal Protective Equipment Training is for people who need to use PPE when at work.
SuperSkills Personal Protective Equipment Training is for people who need to use PPE when at work.

The relevant legislation is the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 2022. Regulation 4 states:

Every employer shall ensure that suitable personal protective equipment is provided to his employees who may be exposed to a risk to their health or safety while at work except where and to the extent that such risk has been adequately controlled by other means which are equally or more effective.

This places a legal obligation on employers to provide PPE and ensure it is used correctly for all people working for them – whether directly employed or as sub-contractors.

(There are some exemptions relating to “self-employed” people, but it is good practice to ensure you adhere to the Regulations for them as well, rather than end up with a Health & Safety Executive investigation where your liability rests on an interpretation of your contractual relationship with your workforce.)
